"Robert John Leslie Kerr was the eldest son of Mr. Robert Kerr, assistant at School 3139, Northcote.
He was born on the 21st of December, 1885, at Slaty Creek, near St. Arnaud. He attended his father's school, and, later, Prospect House, Kyneton.
In 1904, he was appointed junior teacher at School 2957, Victoria Park, Collingwood; in 1908, head teacher at School 3347, Talgitcha, and assistant at 2634, Armadale. He resigned in the same year, obtaining an appointment in the Forestry Department.
He enlisted on the 23rd of August, 1916, embarking on the 2nd of December with the Sixth Reinforcements to the 57th Battalion on the transport Nestor.
While training in England, he was transferred to the Officers' Cadet Battalion at Oxford on the 3rd of April, 1917. He was promoted 2nd Lieutenant on the 1st of August, 1917, went to France to join his unit on the 19th, was promoted Lieutenant on the 23rd of April, 1918, and was killed on the same day."
