Biography contributed by Greg Towner

From my research:

Clarrie's parents were early settlers on the Clarence River.   They married in Grafton 0n 2 July 1865 and lived at Lawrence, Tullymorgan and Illarwill.   When he enlisted in Armidale at the age of 36 Clarrie was living at Dorrigo and probably working as a farm labourer.   His medical records indicate he had lost two fingers off his right hand.   His father John had been a cane cutter on the Clarence and Clarrie may well have been similarly employed.
