Trooper 1037 Charles Diamond was taken on strength of the 8th Light Horse Regiment in Egypt on 26 December 1915 (after the evacuation of Gallipoli).
He was involved in a serious tram accident on 4 April 1916 and was hospitalised at the 3rd Australian General Hospital in Abbassia the same day, where his right thigh and leg were amputated.
Two days later gas gangrene set in and he died of his injuries on 6 April 1916.
He had also previously served with the 6th Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse during the Boer War under the name Charles Henry Diamond (SN 337).
