Rail Ganger Killed By Goods Train

A RAIL ganger was killed instantly when his tricycle collided head-on with a goods train on a bend near Lyndoch today. He was Asa William Rice, 53, of Lyndoch. Rice was travelling from Sandy Creek to Lyndoch on his tricycle, about 10 a.m., and when rounding a curve about a mile out of Lyndoch was met head-on by the goods train. His tricycle was smashed to pieces, and he was hurled in the air. He was dead when the train crew reached him. Rice, who was a returned soldier from World War 1, leaves a wife and four children. Gawler police are preparing a report for the coroner.
