An Original Anzac who enlisted to serve in The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

79 years ago today, on the Sunday afternoon of the 12th November 1944, Private Henry Mark Marks, referred to as Harry, 4th Battalion (Reg No-1161), milk vendor from Wallsend, New South Wales and Islington, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 55. ANGLICAN 1-41. 85.

Born at Newcastle, New South Wales on the 25th August 1889 to Mark Henry, died 8.4.1940, Wickham, N.S.W. age 79, of 6 Phoebe Street, Islington, N.S.W., buried here and Mary Elizabeth Marks, died 10.9.1946, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 81, sleeping here, Harry enlisted on the 22nd October 1914 at Rosehill, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A32 Themistocles on the 22nd December 1914.

Discharged Albany, Western Australia on the 30th December 1914 - disobedience of orders.

Nothing located on Trove regarding enlistment, etc.
I have not located Mr. Marks’s name inscribed on any known War Memorial or Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies at Harry’s gravesite in remembrance of his service for God, King & Country.

Not officially commemorated.
