Son of Elizabeth Upton of Ada Lane, Ultimo, NSW

10 January 1916 - enlisted with the 3rd Battalion

17 February 1916 - discharged as not likely to become a soldier.

7 March 1917 - re-enlisted at Sydney, NSW, with the 13th Battalion and with the rank of Private

15 December 1917 -  transferred to the 34th Battalion

8 August 1918 - wounded in action

Commenced return to Australia on 5 April 1919 aboard HT Armagh disembarking on 20 May 1919

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal

19 June 1919 - discharged at the 2nd Military District
