Boer War
Veteran Dies
Mr. George Maxted, who died yesterday at a Melbourne private hospital after a long illness, was a veteran of the Boer war. He served with the Sydney University Rifles in the Boer War. Later, as a member of the permanent Australian Army, he served in France in World War I. He attained the rank of major and was awarded the D.S.O. Mr. Maxted was senior service clerk of the 3rd Military District, Melbourne, for many years and was well known to almost every permanent officer of the old Administrative and Instructional Corps. He retired from the active list in 1935.
He was a member of the Naval and Military Club, St, Kilda.
Mr. Maxted leaves three sons and a daughter. The funeral will leave the parlors of John (Roy V.) Allison, Albert Park, for the Spring Vale crematorium after a service commencing at 10.45 a.m. tomorrow.
