Died on this date – 13th December…… Patrick Ryan was born in Melbourne, Victoria around 1877.
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 10th July, 1915 as a 38 year old, single, Labourer from Galong, NSW. (no parents details were listed & his friend Mrs Kennedy of Galong was listed as next-of-kin)
Private Patrick Ryan, Service number 2668, embarked from Sydney, NSW on HMAT Runic (A54) on 9th August, 1915 with the 4th Infantry Battalion, 8th Reinforcements.
He embarked for Overseas from Alexandria on 8th November, 1915 on H. T. Royal George.
On 16th November, 1915 Private Ryan was admitted to No. 3 Canadian Stationary Hospital at Mudros with Rheumatism. He was discharged on 23rd November, 1915 & was transferred to Hospital Ship Aquitania where he embarked for England on 25th November, 1915.
He was admitted to County of London, War Hospital, Epsom, England on 4th December, 1915.
Private Patrick Ryan died at 9.30 am on 13th December, 1915 at 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, England from Peritonitis. A Coroner’s Inquest was held on 17th December, 1915 into the cause of death.
On 18th December, 1915 Private Ryan was buried in Wandsworth (Earlsfield) Cemetery, London, England where 34 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
