Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1895, Jim was the fifth of nine children of Robert Swan McCubbin (b1852 in Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland) and Charlotte (Lottie) Annie Elfrida Gover (b1864 in Madras, India). Robert (a Procurator) and Lottie married in 1883 in Yorkshire, England - Lottie's mother was Matron at the Blind School in Ecclesall Brierlow, Yorkshire. Richard and Lottie settled in Glasgow, Scotland and raised their family. Richard was a Solicitor, Writer and Bank Agent. Following his death in 1911, Lottie emigrated to Australia with daughters Frida, Mary and Jean, escorted by son John. Sons Robert and Charles were already in Canada.

Jim - a Clerk - had served two and a half years with the 86th Infantry when he enlisted in the AIF in August 1914 (Private; Service No:454). Jim was WiA at Gallipoli in April 1915 (GSW both knees), and was hospitalised in England. In July 1915 he married Louisa Cook (b1896 in Dorking, Surrey) and served in France before returning to Australia for Discharge in 1919.

Louise joined him in 1919 (arriving on board the Balmoral Castle) and the couple settled in Claremont, Fremantle WA where Jim worked as a Clerk. Jim died in 1970 and Louise in 1986.
