Enlisted Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Son of Mr. Alexander Ballantyne of Main Street, Drummore, Wigtownshire.

Emigrated aged 19. Prior to joining up the ship he sailed in carried troops to the Dardenelles. 

He is remembered on the Drummore War Memorial which was moved from near Kirkmaiden Kirk in the 1970’s to its present site in the grounds of the village Kirk in the main street to Sandhead.

Kirkmaiden is a parish in the Rinns of Galloway, the most southerly in Scotland;
