Certificate of Confirmation
I found Robert Arthur Callcott's Certificate of Confirmation being used as a bookmark in a book I borrowed from the library for residents at the public housing units for the aged at 22-32 Bennett Street Bendigo Victoria 3550. I live in unit 12 at that address.
Robert was confirmed on 5th December 1915 at Helispolis, Cairo, Egypt, presumably by Rennings (?) MacInnes, Bishop in Jerusalem, who signed the Certificate.
Robert's First Communion was on 21st November 1915 on board the TSS Hawkes Bay. Under that is the signature of the Chaplain of the AIF who presumably administered the communion. The name is difficult to read but the surname could be Rogers.
Robert served with the 8th Light Horse Regiment of mounted rifles in the 11-14 Reinforcements from October 1915 to January 1916.
Wikipedia: The 8th Light Horse Regiment was a mounted rifles regiment of the Australian Army during the First World War. The regiment was raised in September 1914, and assigned to the 3rd Light Horse Brigade. The regiment fought against the forces of the Ottoman Empire, in Egypt, at Gallipoli, on the Sinai Peninsula, and in Palestine and Jordan. After the armistice the regiment eventually returned to Australia in March 1919. For its role in the war the regiment was awarded fifteen battle honours.
