Abraham PAKVIS was born in Monster, Holland on 18.06.1886 to Adrianus (24.11.1860-20.12.1932) and Adriana PAKVIS (nee van der Wel - 07.01.1864-05.02.1949). He had 7 siblings.

Abraham PAKVIS was a seaman by trade. He arrived in Sydney, Australia on 17.04.1917 from London He was charged with a serious assault in Sydney against another sailor in May 1917 and sentenced to 3 months hard labour. He applied for Australian citizenship after the war in December 1919 which was granted.

Abraham PAKVIS has married Ivy Louisa 

Abraham PAKVIS died at Adelaide on 29.07.1948 aged 62 years and was buried at Cheltenham Cemetery. 

Military

Abraham PAKVIS enlisted in the AIF in Sydney on 11.10.1917. He was still a Dutch citizen at this time. He was allocated service no 20424 and appointed to the 40th Battalion as a sapper in the engineers. The 40th Battalion was originally a Tasmanian Battalion. It served in all the major battles on the Western Front. (The Somme, Morlasncourt, Hindenberg Line).
