Roy was the second of twelve children of Charles Jesse Bishop (b1869 in Northam, WA) and Hannah Burton (b1975 in York, WA). Charles (a Labourer) and Hannah married in 1892 in York, WA where they resided most of their lives. Charles worked on construction of the railway line from Clackline to Spencer's Brook, and later was a Farmer in Qualen and Greenhills.
Roy was a Bushman in Greenhills WA in November 1914 when he enlisted in the AIF. He served as a Trooper and Driver (Service No:241) with the 10th Light Horse Regiment in the Middle East and was Discharged in May 1919.
In August 1919 Roy married Mabel Carr (b1894 in Greenhills, WA), where they settled and Roy was a Farmer. By the late 1920s the couple had moved to Perth, where Roy worked as a Bread Carter and with the Tramways. Roy died in 1956 and Mabel in 1989.
