The Death Notice in The Daily Advertiser, Thursday 8 August 1929, page 6, gives an outline of the life of C R L Smith
Mr C R L SMITH
The death occurred at Henty yesterday morning after a short illness of Mr Charles Robert Lumsden Smith, at the age of 32. Mr Smith became ill about a fortnight ago with influenza. This developed into pneumonia, which proved fatal. He was born in the Henty District and served 3 years in the Great War with the 18th Battalion. All the rest of his life he spent in Henty and in the District. He had been employed for a number of years by Messrs. Rohrich and Saunders, storekeepers at Henty and was well respected by many people. He leaves a widow and four young children, ranging in ages from two to seven years. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs C Smith and two sisters, Mrs W Rohrich and Mrs H W Taylor of Henty. He was an enthusiastic golfer and last year won the Riverina golf championship, the tournament for which was held at Henty that year.
The funeral will leave the deceased residence, Comer Street, Henty, at 3 O'Clock this afternoon for the Methodist portion of the Henty Cemetery
