Son of Charles Jonas Valentine and Ann Isabella Valentine nee Johnston of Blakiston, SA. 

Husband of Olive Catherine Valentine nee Sinclair of Morawa, WA. Sidney and Olive married on 16 March 1893 in SA. Father of John Sinclair Valentine who returned to Australia on 4 November 1919 having served with the 28th Battalion.

Commenced return to Australia on 23 August 1917 aboard HT Booara disembarking on 19 September 1917
