    Son of George and Elizabeth Rye of Ruthven Street, Toowoomba, QLD. Brother of Edward Rye who returned to Australia on 1 February 1918 having served with the 25th Battalion

    As a young man of 18, you went to war. You were in the first boat ashore at Gallipoli on that dawn morning 25 April 1915, surviving the landing but dying two months later. When I went to Gallipoli I didn't know about you but I hope to return one day and also visit your grave in Alexandria. Rest in Peace, Great Uncle Alfred. Your Great Niece, Cheryl
