Reported Missing, 19 July 1916. Death not confirmed until over 12 months later in a Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 4 August 1917, pronounced fate as 'Killed in Action, 19 July 1916'. 

Brother, 3871 Pte. Leslie Robert Murton 6th Battalion killed in action one week later at Pozieres 26 July, 1916. Age 28.

Both sons of Robert and Caroline Louise Murton and born at North Fitzroy, Victoria. 

Another brother 279 Pte Albert William Peter Murton 3rd Pioneer Battalion (returned).
