Lewis George Scott was one of the three sons of George Alexander Scott and Katherine Elizabeth Scott of Devonport, Tasmania, who enlisted in the AIF during WW1. His older brother, Lce. Cpl. Norman Roy Scott 52nd Battalion was killed in action at Mouquet Farm on the night of 3-4 September 1916, aged 29.  

Lewis was an original member of the 12th Battalion, being amongst the first Australians to enlist. He survived the entire Gallipoli campaign and the heavy fighting at Pozieres during 1916.

Another brother, 2457 Pte. William Pringle Scott served with the 1st Remount Unit in Egypt.
