WELCOME HOME. TO PRIVATE LESLIE PETTIT.
Pte Leslie Pettit who has been on active service for the past three and a half years, returned to Busselton yesterday and was given a warm welcome. The Busselton Brass band, of which the returned soldier was a member, met Pte. Pettit at the rail way station, and as the train drew in played "Home, Sweet Home".
A guard of honor was provided by returned soldiers, girl guides and boy scouts, and these, with a large number of friends marched to the Band room where a reception was held. Bandsman Scanlan expressed the delight of the members at seeing their comrade once more amongst them, and Pte. Pettit’s health was drunk to musical accompaniment.
The Returned sailors, soldiers, and nurses," "absent bandsmen," and " the ladies " were also honored.
In the evening a welcome social and dance was, held in the Weld Hall, when the building was too small to accommodate those desirous of being present. Musical items were rendered by Mr. and Mrs. Claude Thompson, Miss Bowen, Mrs. Winter bottom, and Mr. Bray, and recital by Mr. Morgan. The arrangements for both functions were excellent and reflect no small measure of praise upon Bandmaster Thompson and his enthusiastic bandsmen.
