Eustace Lesbert Wright was known as ‘Euey’to his Dad. His father was George Wright, of Sidmouth, Tasmania, and raised the child alone as the mother, Ellen Jane Wright, had passed away only a few months after the birth of Eustace, in 1890.
‘Euey’s only brother, 2736 Pte. Claude Ennis Wright, also of the 52nd Battalion AIF died of wounds only a few months later on 28 November 1916, aged 28.
‘Euey’ was reported missing at Mouquet Farm in 1916, but his remains were discovered in 1923 and reinterred in the Serre Road Cemetery, his identity disc being returned to the father during late 1923. George Wright passed away in 1924.
