Edgar Hubert Woodward was born at Wilton, New South Wales, on 19th April, 1891, and was the son of Mr. Alfred Woodward and Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Woodward. He was educated at Bringelly Public School, where his father was the headmaster, and he entered the Bank’s service at Cootamundra on 12th January, 1909. He was transferred to Crookwell, as ledger-keeper, on 24th February, 1911; to Coolamon in April of the same year; to Ardlethan, as assistant, in July, 1912; to Young, as ledger-keeper, in May, 1913; and on 13th May of the following year he was promoted to the position of teller there.

Edgar Woodward enlisted in the A.I.F. at Young on 28th August, 1915, and left Australia on 8th March of the following year. From July, 1916, he served in France with the 55th Battalion until he was transferred to the 5th Divisional Observers in November, 1917.

After serving in France and Belgium from July, 1916, until the signing of the Armistice, Private Edgar Hubert Woodward died from bronchial pneumonia on 27th November, 1918, at Le Havre, France, where he was buried in the British Cemetery.
