Chronicle (Adelaide, SA: 1895 - 1954) Saturday 23 December 1916

THE LATE PRIVATE F. B. EARLS.

Mrs. L. Earls has been officially informed that her son, Private F. B. Earls, was killed in action on November 6 in France. He enlisted in January last, left for Egypt in March, landed in France in June, and had been in action since July. Before enlisting he was in the employ of the S.A. Railways. Of a quiet disposition, he had many friends, by whom he will be sadly missed. He was born near Callington 21 years ago, where he resided the greater part of his life. He is the second son Mrs. Earls has lost at the front within three months, and a third, Private E. L. Earls is in England.

The Register (Adelaide, SA: 1901 - 1929) Monday 5 November 1917

IN MEMORY OF THE BRAVE

EARLS.— In loving memory of our dear little boy, Pte. F. B. (Fred) Earls, who lost his life in France on the 5th , November, 1916; also our   dear nephew and cousin, Pte. F. P. (Frank) Earle, who lost his life in France on the same date in the great fight for freedom.

Though boys in years they were men in deeds,

As our British cables tell,

In the thickest of a bayonet charge

Our brave young heroes fell.

Now they are peacefully resting

In their graves, side by side,

May God who gave them life and has taken it,

With them for ever abide.

Ever remembered. Honour the brave.— Inserted by his loving mother, sisters, and brothers, aunt, and cousins, L. Earls and family, Callington.
