6 October 1917 - Promoted to 2 Lieutenant
1 Januar 1919 - After having been denied two Mentioned IN Despatches he was awarded the Miliatary Cross
Citation Reads;
During the period between September 17 and December 31, 1918 Lt Johnson has rendered Valuable service and Conscientious devotion to duty.This officer has acted as F.C.O on three distinct occasions under very heavy fire during operations from 8 August 1918 and on each occasion sending back invaluable information; particualarly on 8 October 1918 during the attack by the 30 American Division to whom his information was sent back at great personal risk, and was of very considerable value to the Staff organising the operatin. His courage and devotion to duty have always been of the highest order
He was known as Ralph and taught at Clare, Crystal Brook, Peterborough and Port LIncoln schools. His last residential address 23 Addison Avenue, Marden, South Australia.
