Son of Frances and the late John CURREY, Perthville, New South Wales.

Husband of Sarah Jane CURREY nee KILBY (m 1888)

Served in Egypt - Suez Canal, Sinai - Palestine - Rafa, Gaza - contracted illness and invalided to 44th Stationary Hospital Egypt.  Recovered and rejoined his unit and was with his unit at the cessation of hostilities.

John Joseph Currey passed away at his residence, 4 Taylor Street, at the age of 67 years, on Thursday morning. Deceased was a returned soldier, having seen service with the  First Australian Light Horse. He was an engineer, and had resided in Dubbo for many years.

Death followed an illness extending over the past six months. Four daughters and five sons survive. They are Florence (Mrs. Robinson, Condobolin), Francis (Dubbo), Charles  (Coolah), John (Auburn), Norman (Bowral), Edith (Mrs. Watt, Oatley), Douglas (Baltimore), Elvey (Mrs. Aspinal, Summer Hill), and Marjory (Mrs. Esling, Nowra).

Deceased was twice married.

The funeral took place yesterday morning, from the Church of England, the Rev. C. W. Leavers conducting a service at the church and performing the last obsequies at the  graveside in the Church of England section of the local cemetery. The Union Jack covered the casket, and a number of returned soldiers at tended the funeral. C. J. Shakespeare and Sons carried out the funeral.
