Clarry’s name has also been remembered on the Newcastle East Public School Roll of Honour, Gardner Memorial and the St. Phillip's Presbyterian Church (Newcastle) Roll of Honour (photo, unveiled on the 11th July 1915).

Unfortunately, there is no headstone at his parent’s gravesite, therefore no memorial inscription, so I have placed a memorial cross adorned with poppies on the gravesite, taken a photo of the memorialised grave and uploaded the photo onto the Northern Cemetery website as a permanent record of his service. From Gary Mitchell, Sandgate Cemetery

Let us remember a Fallen soldier of The Great War awaiting memorialisation at Sandgate Cemetery.

On the 2nd November 1916, Private Clarence Bernard Dalton, referred to as Clarry, 30th Battalion (Reg No-2011), labourer from 8 Alfred Street, Sand Hills, Newcastle East, New South Wales, was Killed in Action by enemy shell fire at Gueudecourt, north-east of Flers, age 20 years, 7 months.

Born at Plattsburg (Wallsend), New South Wales on the 19th March 1896 to George Bernard (died 4.6.1950, Paddington, N.S.W., age 87, cremated 6.6.1950, ashes interred?) of Farrell Avenue, Kings Cross, N.S.W., and Margaretta (Margaret) Estella Helen Dalton nee Sellwood (Stella, died 26.7.1927, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 54), Clarry enlisted on the 20th September 1915 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A70 Ballarat on the 16th February 1916.
Admitted to hospital - 7.8.1916 (furunculosis).
Reported Wounded and Missing - 2.11.1916.

Mr. Dalton’s name has been inscribed on the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France.

Place of Association – Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.

Clarry’s name has also been inscribed on the Newcastle East Public School Roll of Honour, Gardner Memorial and the St. Phillip's Presbyterian Church (Newcastle) Roll of Honour.

Unfortunately, there is no headstone at the curbed and clearly marked gravesite for Clarry’s mother Stella, and probably the ashes of father George Bernard Dalton have been interred here, so on the 2nd November 1917 I erected a Memorial cross adorned with poppies at the gravesite in remembrance of their son’s service and supreme sacrifice for God, King & Country. PRESBYTERIAN-8NW. 8.

Contact with descendants would be greatly appreciated.
