15 Sep 1919: | Honoured Military Medal, 'Near BRAY, during operations from 23rd to 26th August, 1918, Private LOCKWOOD, a Battalion runner, did very good work. He did many long and difficult runs under extremely heavy bombardments. on one occasion he carried an important message to the Brigade Command Post along a route severely shelled. He was very badly knocked about and shaken by exploding shells and on his return was exhausted. Notwithstanding his condition he carried on doing excellent work and refusing relief. His endurance and devotion to duty is indeed worthy of recognition.' Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 109 Date: 15 September 1919 |
