Son of Sydney Edward Underwood and Catherine Underwood nee Hughes of 'Outerfield', New Norfolk, Tasmania.
18 September 1914 - Enlisted at Helena Vale, WA. 16th Battalion, rank of Private.
28 April 1915 - wound to the abdomen and right thigh. Transferred to England on 16 May 1915.
18 March 1916 - transferred to the 24th Howitzer Brigade.
19 April 1916 - transferred to the 4th Divisional Ammuniton Column at Serapeum
Commenced return to Australia on 14 September 1918 from Toranto on transport duty aboard HT Devon disembarking on 24 November 1918 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
23 February 1919 - discharged at the 2nd Military District as medically unfit.
