1 May 1918: | Honoured Military Cross, Megiddo - Syria 1918, Second Lieutenant Peter McCowan 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when sent with his troops to reinforce a post when the enemy were threatening an attack. He led a bayonet charge, and drove off the enemy. Again the enemy attacked, but this officer, though wounded in the leg, rallied his men and successfully held the position. He set a fine example of courage and determination to his men.'
