"The military authorities advise that the name of Sergeant J. R. Denton was mentioned in the dispatches of Field-Marshall Earl Haig on March 16, 1919, as deserving of special mention for conspicuous service rendered by him. Sergeant Denton, who enlisted in 1915, returned in August. He has served 23 years with the military forces, and belonged to the Australian Field Artillery before enlistment.
