Son of Alexander Vane and Ellen Agnes Vane nee Jackson of Amphitheatre, Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 12 March 1918 aboard HT Kenilworth Castle. On 28 April 1918 he was transhipped from Durban aboard HT Field Marshall.
