Son of James WHITE, 49 Baxter Street, Bendigo, Vic.
PRIVATE J. J. WHITE.
Mr. J. White, of 53 Wills-street, Bendigo, 1ha3 received word from the Defence department that his son, Private J. J. White, died on 5th October from gunshot wounds in the left hand and abdomen at the 10th Casualty Clearing Station in France. Private White, who was about 21 years of age, enlisted in April, 1915, and sailed the next month. He took part in the operations in Gallipoli, including the action at Lone Pine. Ho was in several important engagements in France, including Bullecourt. Prior to enlisting for services with the military forces he had belonged to the naval forces, and was present at the taking of Rabaul in German New Guinea.

Pte 541 James White was wounded at Broodseinde Ridge (SW to abdomen) on 4 October 1917.
He was evacuated to the 10th CCS situated at Lijssenthoek, where he died of his wounds the next day 5 October 1917.
