Henry Wakefield Morris was born on 16th July 1891 and lived in 58 Fisher St Norwood, South Australia before he embarked on HMAT Port Lincoln A17 from Australia on 22nd October 1914 to join the first world war at age 24. Henry lived with his mother M.S Morris and worked as a farrier which was a person who made shoes for horses an also worked as an engineer. Henrys complexion was very pale with light blonde hair almost like a grey colour with blue eyes. His height was 5 feet and 9 inches which was 175cm and he weighed around 170Lbs which in kilograms is 77.10kg.
Before he went into war to serve, the only person Henry Wakefield Morris had who he was close to was his mother M.S Morris who didn’t have a husband. He was the only child and did not have any other siblings. Henry was not married, in a relationship with someone or had any children to come back to or miss during war.
Henry enlisted for the first world war on the 19th of August 1914 in Morphett Ville South Australia. He had not served in anything like this before. Henry trained and served in 3rd Light Horse Regiment which was raised in Adelaide, South Australia with his ranking was a Sergeant in the Australian Imperial Force which was the main force of the World War One army.
Henry Wakefield Morris got sick and he was admitted to hospital for 62 days after being at the Foot of Popes Hill. He was admitted because of a disease called adenitis which was the inflammation of a gland on the 10th of July 1915 until the 10th of September 1916. He was wounded in the hand on the 22nd of September 1916 at Destroyer Hill then recovered on the 24th of September 1914.
Henry was transferred to the 1st Field Squad A.M.D on the 1st of June 1916 when he was in Romani when the Turks airplane visited the camp at 6:30am and dropped 10 bomb shells killing 5 men and wounding 1 other. He was admitted to hospital on the 31st of September from a disease called Tonsillitis after being in Dueidar then recovered from hospital on the 11th of October 1916. On the 2nd of November 1916, the 1st Light Horse Regiment left Kantara at 9:00am and marched to the Hill of Dueidar then arriving there at 4:30pm and stayed there for the night.
Henry Wakefield Morris returned from World War One after serving from the start of war which was 1914 until the end of war which was 1919 and he came back from serving for Australia on the 7th of January 1919. Henry received three awards. The first award was a star issued award that he got from joining and serving in the war from 1914 to 1915. The second award was the British war medal and he got this for serving in the war from 1916 to 1917. The last award which was called the Victory Medal Issue he got for serving in the war from 1918 to 1919 and he also got a certificate end.
