John Scott Smith

John fought in France and was wounded twice. First time he was shot in the shoulder, and the second time he was gassed. He went AWOL for a couple of days shortly before he was discharged in 1919. After he returned he had two weeks pay taken off him. After being wounded twice he may have needed a break! When he died he was buried in the South Brisbane Cemetery along with his wife Eileen May Murphy. South Brisbane Cemetery is now known as the Dutton Park Cemetery, South Brisbane. Other Murphy family members are also buried there. One of his two daughters is still alive.

John Smith (Curley)

John Smith is the husband of my Grand Aunt Eileen Murphy. He died in 1945,10 years before I was born at the young age of 47. The only things I know about him is what I have found on the internet. His fathers name was Joseph Smith and his mothers name was Eleanor Blanshard. He had two daughters Phyllis and Mavis. He enlisted on 13th October, 1916 and embarked from Brisbane on the 17th November, 1916 aboard the HMAT A55 'Kyarra', returning on the 3rd January, 1919. In the only photos I have found he has a walking stick, so I am not sure yet whether he may have been wounded.
