From Australian Remembrance Army
Australian World War One veteran Private Frederick Pratt (Service No. 7163), is among almost 800 previously unmarked WWI veterans’ graves in Lutwyche Cemetery we have now marked with plaques in recognition of their service for Australia.
We unveiled his plaque in Lutwyche Cemetery on 23 September 2023, along with a further 300 plaques on the previously unmarked graves of Australian World War One veterans:

Frederick Pratt was born on 3 September 1886 in Rockhampton, Queensland, to Frederick Pratt and Johanna Pratt (née Moriarty). He married Elizabeth Olive Jane Norris on 16 August 1911.
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force at Rockhampton, Queensland, on 17 November 1917, stating his occupation as a billposter and nominating his wife Elizabeth as his next of kin. On 2 March 1918, he embarked for overseas service aboard RMS Ormonde from Sydney, New South Wales.
His journey was quickly disrupted when he contracted measles at sea, requiring hospitalisation and further treatment after disembarking at Suez in Egypt. After recovering and returning to duty, he continued on to England, arriving at Southampton in May 1918, where he underwent further training and was transferred to the 49th Battalion.
However, Pratt’s active service was short-lived. He was soon moved to a command depot in Weymouth and classified as an invalid, suffering from ongoing health issues. He returned to Australia aboard the Leicestershire, disembarking in Melbourne in January 1919 before being formally discharged in Brisbane on 7 February 1919 as medically unfit due to tachycardia.
Private Frederick Pratt died on 17 February 1950, aged 63, and was buried in Anzac Portion 8, Lutwyche Cemetery, Brisbane.
After decades without recognition at his place of burial, his grave now bears a plaque commemorating his service to Australia — ensuring his name endures among those remembered for their duty and sacrifice. His identity and dignity have now been restored.
We have remembered him.
