Served and suffered during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.
82 years ago today, on the Monday afternoon of the 30th March 1942, Captain Robert Cudden, referred to as Tim, 30th Battalion, drill instructor from the Gunyah, Waratah, New South Wales and 'Warra Moloo', 169 Parry Street, Hamilton, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 55. PRESBYTERIAN-16NE. 76.
Born at Sydney, New South Wales on the 9th June 1886 to Thomas and Isabella Cudden; husband of Ellen Elizabeth Cudden nee Shephard (married 1915, Newcastle, N.S.W., died 12.6.1977, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 82 - https://www.findagrave.com/.../178.../ellen-elizabeth-cudden), Robert enlisted as a Lieutenant on the 9th August 1915, place unknown.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A72 Beltana on the 9th November 1915.
Wounded in action - 5.8.1916 (severe GSW right hand & forearm, shell shock, Battle of Pozieres).
Admitted to hospital 15.10.1916 (neurasthenia), 23.10.1916 (severe shell shock).
Robert arrived home on the 21st November 1917, being discharged on the 9th December 1917 (own request).
Mr. Cudden’s name has been inscribed on the Hamilton (Gregson Park) War Memorial, Hamilton Municipal District Roll of Honor, Wellington Hall of Memory Honour Roll and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.
I haved placed poppies at Robert’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
Not officially commemorated.
