Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

John Henry William Owens was one of four sons of Benjamin and Jane Owens of Collingwood, Victoria, who served in the AIF during WW1. His brother Benjamin Owens 39th Battalion AIF, was killed in action on 5 April 1918.

Two other brothers Emil Owens 6th Battalion and David Owens 13th Light Horse Regiment returned to Australia in 1919.

John married Ethel May in 1915 and he was the father of a small girl called Bonnie Mildura Owens when he enlisted. He served on Gallipoli for three months and was reported missing at Mouquet Farm on 26 August 1916. He was confirmed as killed on that date later in 1917.
