Alfred Marlow was born in Taree, New South Wales. He was a labourer. Alfred had a brother called Samuel Marlow and he also lived in Taree, New South Wales.

Alfred enlisted on the 17th January, 1916, according to the nominal roll entry recorded by the AIF Project but the 25th January 1916, is listed elsewhere as his date of enlistment.

He enlisted at Sydney Town Hall, and embarked from Sydney, on the HMAT A10 Karroo on 5th May, 1916. He was in the 15th Light Horse Regiment and then moved to the 12th Light Horse Regiment, 8th Reinforcement. On the 12th of January, 1918, he was taken on strength for duty with the Army Medical Corps (AMC) 2nd grade in Moascar.

On 2nd of February, 1918, Alfred became sick and went to the hospital and on the 19th February, 1918, he was discharged.

Alfred Marlow served in Egypt from 1916-1917 and in Palestine from 1917-1918.

The men that were in the 15th Light Horse sailed home without their horses because they were transferred to other units or to Indian cavalry units in 1919.

Alfred Marlow returned to Australia on the 26th of July, 1919.
