Alf was the fourth of eighteen children of John Godfrey Johnson (b1848 in Bolivia, NSW) and Ellen Folwell (b1859 in Stawell, Victoria). John's parents arrived in NSW in 1841 as Assisted Immigrants on board the Brothers and later followed the goldrushes to Victoria and WA - family anecdote is that John was born in Bolivia, South America.
Alf was working as a Carter in Midland Junction, WA in 1901 when he married Florence Elizabeth Gould (b1887 in Guildford, WA). Alf worked as a Labourer in Cunderdin while Florence stayed at New Norcia Mission. In June 1915 Alf was a Wood Cutter in Perth WA when he enlisted in the AIF (Private; Service No:3071). Alf served with 11th Infantry Battalion in France, where he was WiA on two occasions in 1916 and 1917 (GSW thigh - severe). Alf was Discharged in June 1919. He was one of eight brothers who served in WWI and WWII
Returning to Midland Junction in WA Alf worked as a Labourer and Prospector and died in 1937
