William was the son of Edward and Mary Taylor [nee Bullock]. William left
from Melbourne on HMAT A35 Berrima on 30 June 1916. Shortly after arriving
in England to undertake further training he was admitted to the Military
Hospital at Fargo with Otitis media on 15 September. On 24 November his unit
was sent to France where he fought until hospitalised with conjunctivitis on 17
February 1917. Upon rejoining his unit William continued to fight in France for
the duration of the war. He returned to Australia on 12 March 1920 on the
Ceramic and was discharged on 21 July
