45 years ago today, on the 9th March 1978, Gunner William Alfred Garner, 36th Australian Heavy Artillery Brigade (Reg No-1521), soldier and engineer's apprentice from 152 Lindsay Street, Hamilton, New South Wales, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 78. METHODIST 2 (PRIMITIVE) 22 NW. 42.

Born at Hillgrove, New South Wales on the 15th April 1899 to John Henry and Christena Garner; husband of Dulcie Hazel Garner nee Muncaster (married 1923, Hamilton, N.S.W., died 1998, age 97!, sleeping here), William enlisted on the 27th June 1918 at South Head, N.S.W.

Mr. Garner’s name has not been inscribed on the Hamilton (Gregson Park) War Memorial or the Hamilton Municipal District Roll of Honor or any known War Memorial or Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies at the Garner gravesite in remembrance of William’s service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
