Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Charles Bickham enlisted the same day as his younger brother, Clifford Bickham on 30 March 1916. They were given consecutive regimental numbers in the 40th Battalion, (Tasmanian).

The younger of the two, 783 Lce. Cpl. Clifford William George Bickham 40th Battalion AIF, was killed in action during the attack on Messines on 7 June 1917, aged 20.

A third brother, Colin Bickham, was sent home to Australia during 1918 due to the deaths of his two brothers.

They were the sons of Henry and Mrs. Mary Ann Bickham, Lefroy, Tasmania. The father had passed during 1909, so their widowed mother received all of their entitlements.
