Frederick Keane lived at Reynella with his parents and was amember ofthe local Roman Catholic Church. He had four brothers that also served- Arthur, Joseph, Theodore and Wilfred, all of whom returned home after the war. 

At the time of his enlistment, Freerick was single. He stood 5' 10" (178cm) tall, weighed 161lbs (73kg) and had a fair complexion, with hazel eyes and brown hair. Frederick embarked on the Armadale for service at Gallipoli on 12 February 1915. He was wounded in the thigh on 30 June 1915 and again on 23 December 1916, before being killed in action near Gaza, Palestine 0n 19 April 1917, when aged 25 years.

There is no known grave, but Frederick is commemorated with an inscription at the Jerusalem War Cemetery. A last post ceremony was held for him at the Australian War Memorail on 26 July 2014.
