Son of John Quinnell and Ann Quinnell nee McCallum of Adelong, NSW.
Prior to enlisting he was a member of the Adelong Rifle Club
8 August 1915 - enlisted at Cootamunda, NSW with the 4th Battalion with the rank of Private, Service Number 3890
10 March 1916 - transferred to the 1st Pioneer Battalion
7 June 1916 - shrapnel wounds to the both legs
12 July 1919 - commenced return to Australia aboard HT Indarra disembarking on 8 September 1919
11 January 1920 - Discharged at the 2nd Military Distrist ex-1st Pioneer Battalion
