Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board

Henry William GAMMONE, (Service Number 436) was born 2 February 1879, in London. He began his career with the Railways on 8 March 1912, as a 3rd class porter in the Traffic Branch. By 17 February 1914, he was a porter in Newcastle. Shortly after, in August 1914, he joined the AIF at the age of 35. He embarked at Sydney on HMAT A14 ‘Euripides’ on 20 October 1914.

He was killed in action in the Gallipoli Peninsula on 19 May 1915. He was buried in the 4th Battalion Parade Ground Cemetery, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey.

Henry William GAMMONE (Service Number 436) was born 2nd February 1879, in London. He began his career with the Railways on 8 March 1912, as a 3rd class porter in the Traffic Branch. He was in the 4th Australian Infantry Battalion. Additionally, after being promoted to Lance Corporal on 4th April 1915, he reverted to Private at his own request on 13th May 1915, just days before he would die. He was killed in action in the Gallipoli Peninsula on 19th May 1915. He was buried in the 4th Battalion Parade Ground Cemetery, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey.

His sister, who was his next of kin, was given the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal, and the Victory Medal for his service.
