94 years ago today, on the Thursday afternoon of the 6th August 1925, Private Zachariah Thomas Stanborough, 18th Battalion, wharfinger from 50 and 48 Railway Street, Cooks Hill, New South Wales, father of five, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 41. ANGLICAN 2-114. 17.

Born at Newcastle, New South Wales on the 20th May 1884 to Zachariah Thomas and Elizabeth Stanborough; husband of Annie McDonald Stanborough nee Hill (married 1907, died?), Zach enlisted August 1917 at Newcastle, N.S.W.
Wounded in action - 9.8.1918 (GSW chest, severe), Zach was invalided home December 1918.

Zach’s name has been inscribed on the Cooks Hill St. John's Anglican Church Honor Roll (unveiled on the 12th February 1922).
Unfortunately, there is no indication on Mr Stanborough’s headstone that he served with the 1st A.I.F.

99 years ago today, on the Thursday afternoon of the 6th August 1925, Zachariah Thomas Stanborough Jnr, referred to as Zack, 18th Battalion (Reg No-7136), wharfinger from 50 and 48 Railway Street, Cooks Hill, New South Wales, father of six (Zachariah, Henry Charles, Esma Jean, Alexander Drysdale, Gladys R., Elizabeth), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 41. ANGLICAN 2-114. 17.
Born at Newcastle, New South Wales on the 20th May 1884 as Zechariah to Zachariah Thomas, died 2.11.1932, Queen Street, Cooks Hill, N.S.W., age 73, buried at ANGLICAN 1-78. 21, and Elizabeth Stanborough nee Wyld, died 25.5.1908, Cooks Hill, N.S.W., age 44, mother of 10, sleeping at ANGLICAN 1-78. 19, from 2 Pitt Street, Cooks Hill, N.S.W.; husband of Annie McDonald Stanborough nee Hill, married 1907, Newcastle, N.S.W., remarried to Sidney M Ryan, 1930, Hamilton, N.S.W., Annie died 19.10.1938, Mayfield, N.S.W., age 53, from 15 Victoria Street, Adamstown, N.S.W., sleeping with Zachariah, name not inscribed on headstone plaque, Zack enlisted on the 18th August 1917 at Newcastle, N.S.W.
Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on the 19th December 1917.
Wounded in action - 9.8.1918 (GSW chest, severe).
Invalided to England 18.8.1918.
Commenced return to Australia 19.10.1918.
Zack arrived home invalided on the 27th December 1918, being discharged medically unfit on the 13th February 1919.
Mr. Stanborough’s name has been inscribed on the Cooks Hill St. John's Anglican Church Honor Roll. A member of the Newcastle & District Trolley, Drayman & Carters' Union, no Roll of Honour produced.
Unfortunately, there is no indication on Mr. Stanborough’s headstone plaque that he served with the 1st A.I.F., so I have placed poppies at Zack’s gravesite in remembrance of sacrifice for God, King & Country.
Not officially commemorated.
