Charles Ernest was the fourth son and fifth child of Joseph Walter and Isabel (nee Gibson) Burley.
Charles married Elizabeth Salloway in Perth in 1909. they had three children Belle, Cyril and Miriam. Miriam died on 6th August 1916 when she was 2years abd 6 months old whilst Charles was on active service.
