William's parents were John Smiley and Margaret Benson. William attended North Pine State School. He was working as a Platelayer and living at South Brisbane when he enlisted on March 11 1916 at Brisbane. He boarded this ship with his two brothers George [4603] and Albert [4596]. William died aged 63
