John was a celebrated axeman on Tamborine Mountain. There is a "Bartle" Road named after his family.
He married Mary Ann nee Wilson (Polly) and they had 3 children.

John was listed in the Logan Village Nominal roll for ANZACS.
He is also the same person as John Evan Bartle who enlisted in WW11 Service Number Q103768.
He was born 13th June 1895 in Mackay and died 21st May 1975 in Tamborine.
His parents were George and Kesiah Biggs.
