Robert Smith was the son of Basil and Julia Smith.  Born in Adelaide Lead (near Maryborough) Victoria.  Siblings were Thomas, James, Henry, Janet, Basil and Daniel.

Daniel his brother also joined the 6th Reinf 8th Lighthorse 17/2/15
