Henry Willis was born in Stewkley, Buckinghamshire, England. He came out to Australia when he about seventeen years of age in 1909. He was an engine driver by trade when he enlisted in Casino, New South Wales. He was educated at the Stewkley School in England.

He only joined the 47th Battalion during February 1918 and was reported missing only weeks later, during the very heavy fighting the 47th Battalion endured at Dernancourt on 5 April 1918.

Henry is remembered on the Stewkley War Memorial in Bucks, England.
